Korea Curious?

Then definitely take a look at this amazing blog, from two transplants living it up in Korea:

EAT YOUR KIMCHI.com
They pretty much provide an English version of pop culture and life in Korea, and have become mini celebrities themselves. If you’re thinking of visiting Korea or teaching English there, or are wondering what the hell Gangnam is, then this site is a great place to start.

I’m still trying to figure out how to navigate through their crazy site, but here is their Culture section.

Spring is Coming Soon

We will be closed this week for some updates to the shop – we realize this inconveniences Valentine’s Day shoppers, and apologize. You can find lovely gift items at Walrus, Much & Little, Regional Assembly of Text, or for true awesome: make a beautiful card yourself with supplies from Urban Source! Each of these shops is within a 5-10 minute walk from our location.

And if you’re hungry for sushi, try a Vancouver take on Japanese izakaya/tapas and stop by the crazy new restaurant that has opened up next door – the General Public (no website yet). Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Congratulations to Jon Klassen!!!

Jon Klassen, one of our favourite Canadian artists (although he apparently defected to LA) has just won the gold Caldecott Medal for his lovely book ‘This is Not My Hat’! We carry his full line of greeting cards here at the shop. What a talented (and cute) guy.

Please Help Save the Waldorf!!!

Please sign this petition as soon as you can to help save one of the most amazing cultural centres to have opened their doors in Vancouver in a very long time: the Waldorf Hotel. The petition, here, also explains a bit of the history of this wonderful place – which has just recently and shockingly been sold to a condo developer.

Online Shipping Updates

We are proud to now offer flat rate shipping for all online orders: $6 for orders placed in North America, and $12 for international. No matter how big your order is, the rate stays the same!

Psst…the new MMMG Draw Your Tomorrow planners are in!

Online Shop Maintenance

Just jiggling some things in the online shop, it will be back up in about a day or so.

Happy New Year

Today is the last day of 2012 and we are all somewhat still alive. Thank you to everyone who made our little 6-person shop a part of your lives, and we look forward to seeing you in 2013.

My religion is kindness.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

We’d like to leave you with one of our favourite Korean artists, Lee Seung-En (and her partner, Huh Hun Sun), who creates works in miniature that represent what traditional Korean life used to be like around fifty years ago. Japan had already opened their doors to international/American influence and this started to trickle into Korea very slowly. My mother, who is from Daegu, grew up exactly how life is portrayed in Lee Seung-En’s work:
